Sheffield Way Relay – a report by John Crossland

The 20th Sheffield Way Relay 25th September 2016

A Report by John Crossland
The popularity of this event is showing no signs of wearing out with a record field of 18 teams taking part this year. A warm welcome was extended to Strideout ladies who entered this event for the first time and to 4 intrepid ultra runners who once again set out on the ultimate challenge of going all the way round.

It is becoming ever more apparent that teams enter this event for the fun & excitement it has to offer and for the sheer joy of running, many is the comment “what a terrific event, we’ll be back next year.”

Congratulations to Striders A Team for being first home in a new course record time and to Striders Ladies A Team winning the Roy Kitson Founders Trophy for the first time. Congratulations also go to Jenny Rich & Sian Elizabeth Evans who set a new ladies leg 1 record and apologies to Hannah Helmore & Kate Wilkinson for me missing their leg 2 record set in 2014 which still stands to date.

Well done to Steve Haake and Nick Burns who went distance in the ultra a run to be proud of on the tough Sheffield Way route.

All the results and current records can be found on the Striders website.

Nether Edge Bowling Club home of the post race bash was once again a lively affair where runners gathered to chew over the days’ events and the buffet.

And finally my grateful thanks as always to My Team without whom this event would never take place.
