Bamford Carnival Fell Race

Race Date: Wednesday 19th July 2017

Bamford Carnival Fell Race goes up from Bamford Recreation ground to Win Hill. It’s short and sharp – 4.5 miles with approximately 1000 feet of ascent in the first 2 miles. There are lovely views from the top if you have a moment to glance up from the ground just in front of you! It’s in the Striders fell championship, so is fairly well attended by our club – despite the iffy weather. It was better in Hope Valley last night than in Sheffield though.

The winner of the race was Matthew Elkington of Dark Peak FR, in a time of 29:06. The winning lady was Helen Thornhill of Buxton AC in a time of 35:41. 197 runners finished the race, of which 16 were Striders.

Well done to everyone who took part on what was a very humid evening. It was harder work than is normal for a fell race, and they’re always hard! Particular congratulations are due to Paul Stuart for being first M50, and Caroline Brock for being 2nd lady.
