Mourne Way 2017

Race Date: Sunday 11th June 2018

758 runners took part in the 9th Mourne Way Marathon event which runs between Rostrevor and Newcastle in Northern Ireland. 82 hardy souls set off at 6am to run from Rostrevor to Newcastle along the scenic 26 mile route, to then run round and head back. A further 189 chose the return leg only, with 333 taking part in the most popular distance of the Half Marathon which started slightly later than planned due to one of the buses for competitors breaking down whilst heading up the hills to the start, a sign of things to follow perhaps! The remaining 154 entrants look part in the shortest of the distances available in the 10k.

The challenging course was more than compensated for by the incredible scenery and the social side to the race, huge cheers were heard from the half marathon start line as any of the longer distance runners passed through and the support offered by both runners and marshals along the route was enough to keep everyone going to the very enjoyable final decent to the finish line.

The Half Marathon Distance was won by Thomas O’Gorman in 01:35:09. The first woman home was Martsje Hell in 01:43:42. Well done to our Striders representative:
