Race Date: Sunday 18/06/2017
The Tour of Tameside is a four day festival of running from 15-18 July. Starting with the X-Trail 10k in Oldham, followed by the 6 mile ‘Hell on the Fell’ race at Copley, Saturday brought the Hero Half Marathon on the Longdendale Trail with the event ending with the newly named ‘Dr Ron’ 7 mile road race in Hyde.
Founded by Dr Ron Hill MBE in 1983, this is a popular race series for club runners in the Greater Manchester area and the majority of competitors in the 7 mile race had completed the previous 3 events.
On a boiling hot Sunday morning, with the race started by Ron himself, 524 runners finished with one Strider taking part. The race was won by Gareth Revan (Sale Harriers) in 39.45 with the winning lady Vicky Wright (Hyde Village Striders) crossing the line in 44.43
The overall tour was also won by Gareth Revan in a combined time of 3.12.36 with Kirsty Longley (Liverpool Pembroke Sefton) winning the combined ladies race in 3.37.14
