Race Date: Sunday 27th September 2015
The Penistone Hill Race is a multi-terrain race: approximately 7 miles (11.5km) with 890 feet (271m) of ascent, run in support of Sporting Penistone, a campaign by the Penistone and District Community Partnership to keep the Penistone Leisure Centre runnning. It is a tough race on tarmac, trails and paths, with hills and stunning views of the Penistone area,
David Palmer’s appraisal of this race is as follows:
Penistone Hill Race is a MUST do for next year if you like Cross Country or Fell Running for the following reasons. 1) It’s for a great cause supporting a community leisure centre that doesn’t get enough support 2) It’s a great/tough route and only 6.5 miles long 3) Everyone attending the prize giving got a spot prize (mostly beer or chocolate) 4) Anyone entering can get a free session at Penistone Leisure Centre (circuits/kettlebells/yoga/pilates) 5) It’s just £8 to enter (£7.95 actually) – Well done Penistone Footpath Runners and Shaun Dimelow for putting on such a great local event
Attendance was hit because of a clash with a couple of other popular local races therefore the race only attracted a field of 123 runners, including four Striders. Well done to all 4 for your efforts. Special mention to David Palmer for his 5th place overall which earned him 1st MV40 Vet.
The race was won by Joe Fowler of Sheffield RC in a new course record time of 43.26. First woman was Helen Whitby of Northern Vets AC in 51.41.
