Track Introduction Sessions Announced

A series of introduction sessions have been arranged to encourage Striders to try running at an athletics track. These are aimed at runners looking to improve their times and wanting to try something different but have not had the confidence to try out training on the track.

Track running has benefited many a runner in both speed and endurance economies. Time on the track is well spent for runners at any level. Track workouts offer the structure and discipline of a serious athletic routine that is proven time and time again by marked improvement in performance.

The sessions will take place at Chaucer School Athletics Track.  Parking is free but at a premium. There are also a number of free parking spaces opposite the school on the road.

The sessions will take place on Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st May @ 7pm.

Session plans:

  • Week 1 – Track etiquette, form and warm up drills
  • Week 2 – Week 1 re-cap, more warm up drills and some short reps
  • Week 3 – Full track session with longer reps

Following the introduction sessions it is hoped that many of you will try out the regular sessions either at Chaucer on a Tuesday (run by Sheffield Tri-Club in the autumn/winter months) or a Striders session on Thursday at Woodbourn Road. There is also a more informal track session on Tuesdays through the summer.

The introduction sessions are free to attend and open to all striders regardless of ability. No specialist footwear is required, just turn up in your usual road shoes. Chaucer track can be cold even in the summer months so an extra layer for the warm-up is a good idea.

The sessions will be taken by David Palmer with support from Jennifer Rich.
