Race date: Saturday 14th May 2016
A bright, cool morning greeted 6 Striders for the Dukeries 30 & 40 mile ultra. The race was mostly run on the Robin Hood Way and was relatively easy going, with limited elevation. All-in-all an excellent introduction to the world of ultra marathons.
The winner of the 30 mile race was Alex Loach of Holme Pierrepoint RC in a time of 3:43:42. The winning lady was Emma Humphries of Gainsborough Strider, in a time of 4:36:45.
The winner of the 40 mile race was David Greenwood of Holme Pierrepoint RC in a time of 5:17:31. The winning lady was Karen Nix, in a time of 6:24:31.
Special praise goes to Anthony O’Keefe – running 30 miles with a visual impairment is a truly remarkable achievement (although he pointed out that it’s his eyes that don’t work, not his legs!). His ability to listen to Peter MacQueen talk about the MK Dons for 6+ hours should also be taken into consideration.
