Race Date: Sunday 22nd May 2016
My Hillsborough lady runners are made of solid stuff as Tanith James proved last month in completing the Kielder Ultra Trail 50k. Not to be outdone, S6 regular Laura Evans undertook a similar feat over the weekend in the shape of the Keswick 50k Trail Ultra.
The 50k race forms part of the Keswick Mountain Festival alongside Triathlons, 5k, 10k and 25k trail races and even some open swimming events.
The course looked stunning, but somewhat hilly in places. Yep, its the Lake District after all.
The race winner was Donald Campbell in 4hrs 36 mins and 24 seconds. The first lady home was Beth Pascall in 5hrs 21 mins and 39 seconds.
185 runners took part, 55 of whom were ladies.
Laura did not let herself down at all and finished in a highly credible 8hrs 36mins and 47 seconds to finish 154th overall and 37th lady.
We cannot do anything but doff our caps to such a tremendous performance. Personally, i’m in total awe as I know how much she struggled to fit in the training.
