9 Edges Endurance Race 2017 Result

Race Date: Saturday 23rd September 2017

Edale Mountain Rescue’s annual fundraising race, 9 Edges, does exactly what it says on the tin. Taking in a beautiful 20 mile route over 9 gritstone edges – Derwent Edge, Stanage, Burbage North, Burbage South, Froggat, Curbar, Baslow Edge, Gardoms, and Birchens – with around 900 metres of climb on route. Perfect running weather with the rain holding off until the finish-line beers had been guzzled, although the previous days of rain meant for tricky, boggy, sinking sections early on in the route.

The race was won by Michael Tonkins in 2.43.45, and first lady home was Caroline Brock in 2.52.06.

183 runners finished the race, of which 18 were striders.

Special mention to Simon Bayliss who finished first in his age category, and third overall; and to Caroline Brock, who continued her winning streak and took 5th place overall with a time of 2.52.06 – spectacular.

Well done to all the striders who took part!
