Full results are not yet available, but an estimated 3,500 runners took part in the 5th running of the Belfast City Half marathon, with at least two Striders in attendance. Steel City, that is. My screams of “go on Strider” went unnoticed by Blaine as he sailed past me during the first mile, but were gratefully received by the Scrabo Striders running nearby!
The course starts with a tour of Ormeau Park (lovely parkrun by the way) and then heads out towards the city airport, taking in Victoria Park (another great parkrun), before heading back into the city centre via the Titanic Quarter. Up the famous Falls Road, where the green and gold of a SCS shirt is particularly well received. Then heading back into town before the last leg out through Botanic and back to Ormeau park.
The race was won by Gideon Kipsang in 1:04:38. The first woman home was Catriona Jennings in 1:15.38. Well done to both participating Steel City Striders:
