Race date: Sunday 10th September 2017
PMA Racing organised the 26th Derby Sprint Triathlon which consisted of a 400m swim and 18 km bike ride and a 5 km run at and near to the Etwall Leisure Centre in Derby. Mercifully, you do them consecutively and not concurrently.
As someone who hasn’t even seen a triathlon before, I found the pre-race details helpful. I was reassured to read that, for instance, “… Swimmers will be set off in waves of 6 …” and that “… Nudity is not permitted …”.
The race photos are a complete joy and well worth a browse. I stopped downloading them when I had 6.
It looks like 447 athletes took part in total and the first to splash, push and dash home was Rupert Stainer in a total time of 54:35. The first woman home seems to have been Josie Mullane of the Stafford Tri Club in 1:05:22.
As you might expect with a three event race, the results sheet is pretty complicated but worth a look.
Our very own Adrian did a great job as well.
