Stamford St Valentine’s 30k Result

Race Date: Sunday 12th Feb 2017

The St Valentine’s 30k Race is the flagship event organised by Stamford Striders out in rural Lincolnshire. It is run each year on the Sunday closest to St Valentine’s Day and is recognised nationally as a tough event, providing a good training run for those planning a spring marathon. The 2017 staging was the 24th such race, and was held in rather cold and miserable conditions with an unwelcome icy breeze. Maybe the weather was the main reason why some Striders chose more substantial clothing over their club vests!

The race was won by Aaron Scott in a time of 01:39:56. Aaron is unattached, which seems strangely apt for a Valentine’s race. First female over the line was Sophie Kelly of Cambridge and Coleridge AC in a time of 02:02:56.

Three Striders braved the conditions, Sian Evans was first finisher with her time of 02:15:04, closely followed by Gareth Evans and Peter Brown.
