Bamford Sheep Dog Trial Fell Race | 28th May 2018

Race Report by Fran Cummins

Race date 28th may 2018

The Bamford Sheepdog Trials take place on the second May bank holiday every year.  You pay to enter the trials and then get the fell race for free…what a bargain!  This year the weather was warm, which wasn’t brilliant for the race but perfect for enjoying the atmosphere and food and drink post running.

The route is a 4.5-mile route with 1000ft of ascent.  A fast flat 1.5mile to start with and then a steep climb up Parkin Clough to take you to the top of Winn Hill.  The return route offers some brilliant views back towards Bamford and some nice fast running back down to the main trail.  Finishing in the showground gives the race a great atmosphere and spur you on to that sprint finish!

There were 4 striders amongst the 215 finishers. The first male was Nathan Lawson in 30.31 and the first female was Zanthe Wray in 37.05.

I managed to place 3rd senior woman and 4th woman overall. Big congratulations also to Nicola Rafferty who was the 1st v50 woman.
