Race Date: Saturday 3rd November 2018
Race Report by: Simon Ross
I entered this race at the last minute. Looking for any 10km race in the area and already having raced with this group earlier in the year I knew it would be a fun event.
I didn’t really pay attention to the fact that it was a colour run, nothing like running hard through a cloud of paint powder.
As usual I woke a little late and panicked, no time for breakfast, grab my kit and leg it. Then as usual I arrived early and really wanted my breakfast.
A straight out and back course along the canal from the Source at Meadowhall to New York Stadium. Sadly minutes before the start the stadium rang to say there were too many cameras on site to run around it so the race ended up being an out and back and out and back, It was still a little short, but that didn’t really matter.
I spent a good amount of time checking out the other runners before the race. ‘He looks fast’, ‘I think I need to keep an eye on her’. Just before the start somebody threw a huge bottle of paint powder into the air and subsequently into everyone’s lungs. 3,2,1 go! I went out so hard that in no time I had built a good gap between me and the rest of the field. Averaging a 170 heartbeat for the race pretty quickly I realised I had gone far too fast at the start and suffered all the way through.
I somehow managed to win the 10k race in a time of 39:11, over 5 minutes ahead of the second person. I have no idea how I did that. Maybe because everyone else was out to run a fun race. Still it was fun.
Full race results can be found here.
Editor note: The official results give no affiliations, no age categories and no gender details. We are confident that we have our very own Simon Ross as race winner, but first lady could either by second-placed Sam Watling in a time of 44:46, or third-placed Rebecca Hall in 45:15. If there were other Striders in the race who would like their details showing then please get in touch.
