Race Report by Nick Booker
The Leeds Liverpool Canal Canter is a scenic, fast and flat, out-and-back route along the tow path of the Leeds Liverpool canal. Runners can pick a distance, from the challenge of an Ultra to a 5k sprint, with the chance to pit yourself against the marathon, 20 mile, half marathon and 10k distances in between.
Not the 127 miles, only 32 miles for me from Leeds to Shipley and back, all canal tow path and very steady.
Great atmosphere and support from Its Grim Up North, the running organisers. For the ultra you didn’t have to carry your own kit, so great for 1st timers, with feed stations every 3 miles. Finish line provides delicious homemade cakes for each runner.
Just 12 runners competed in the ultra distance, including lone Strider Nick Booker. The race winner was Adam Newsome (Wakefield Triathlon Club) in 03:54:15 and the first lady was Jessica Riches (unattached) in 04:46:54. Nick finished in 3rd place in 04:33:17.
