Race date: Sunday 11th February 2018
The first Leicestershire Half Marathon took place today in the impressive surroundings of Prestwold Hall which is near Loughborough.
The race itself pounded through some of the Hall grounds and perhaps surprisingly through the adjacent, disused, airfield and surrounding roads. It’s a good job the course (81m of ascent, runways, some track and road) was well signed, as much looping was involved.
The weather was, despite the following, really quite nice – brilliant blue skies, warm sun, very strong occasional headwinds (or tailwinds if you were going the other way), light rain and sleet. I’m sure a polar bear turned up at one point; a Scooby Do certainly did.
1199 runners took part with Nathan Harrison (Sale Harriers, Manchester) putting in a good time of 01:11:49. Lucy Niemz was first woman home, in 01:23:03.
