Race date: Sunday 6th May 2018
The popular Sleaford Half Marathon happened the other day and yes, it clashed with the very fast North Lincolnshire Half Marathon, as it usually does.
The weather as, of course, very sunny and hot; the organisation was good and the people great. Runners were reminded before the start that this was in part a race on roads open to traffic and that potholes were in evidence. One pothole was effectively guarded by brave marshals – needed to be too as it was big. That didn’t stop me descending into one, though.
The course is pretty level with interesting loops – I had no clue where I was but I am sure I had been there a few times before….
If you happen to be house hunting, there are some truly impressive mansions large houses around the course with quite enough room to park the helicopter.
The heat made the drinks stations particularly welcome along with the enthusiastic folks handing out the dihydrogen oxide. That being said, numbers of people were having problems, making the mistake of running too hard for the conditions. I was (predictably) slower than usual – no problem there, really.
There were 417 runners in total; Martin Dawson (North Derbyshire RC) took the chequered flag with a good time of 01:15:11. Caroline Woods (unattached) was the first woman home, in 01:32:40.
As far as I can tell, I was the only (Steel City) Strider there – if there were others, please let us know.
