Striders donate to help save moors after fire

In May 2018 the moors outside Sheffield caught fire. The Fire and Rescue Service had to mount a large and expensive response, including the use of a helicopter. A fund was set up after the event to raise money for the recovery effort and to tackle future events.

Many members of the club regularly run, race and enjoy spending time on the moors, so the committee agreed we should donate from the club funds set aside for donations and community support.

In August 2018, chairman Andy Buck presented the Eastern Moors Partnership with a cheque for £500.

Following the donation, Eastern Moors Partnership said:

“A huge THANK YOU! to Steel City Striders who this morning presented the Eastern Moors Partnership with a cheque for £500 towards our helicopter fund in the aftermath of the Big Moor fire in May.

It has been so wonderful to see the response from our community after this devastating fire, and to know how many people out there love the Moors as much as we do.”
