Race Date: 14th July 2018

The Thurlstone Chase is lovely ‘traditional’ fell race held as part of the Thurlstone Village Gala. Registration can be found nestled between the tombolas, home baking and face painting at the Gala. Once registered it’s a few hundred feet up steep steps to the start – a sign of things to come.
The route itself is 4 miles and around 500ft of climbing. After an initial mile of steady climbing there follows almost three miles of fast relentless descending, topped off with a steep climb back to the start. Steep, but sadly not quite steep enough to justify walking!
On crossing the line, and desperately in need of re-hydration, you are presented with a token for £1 off a bottle of Bradfield Brewery’s Rescue Ale. With profits from ‘Rescue Ale’ going to Mountain Rescue it would be rude not to!
All in, a great race with a relaxed atmosphere, and I would certainly encourage more Striders to consider having a crack next year.
The race was won by Ben Tetler (Glossopdale) in 24:11. First lady was Imogen Trinder (also Glossopdale) in 28:51. Sole Strider was Andrew. Well done to all who ran.
