Alsager 5 Road Race 2019 Results and Report

Report by Tom Halloway

Race Date: Sunday 3rd February 2019

Alsager 5, a nice flat 5 mile course with a good set of runners to drag you around. It’s a later start 11am so a little warmer.

After a fun day down at the track yesterday it was time to head back to Stoke for a ‘cheeky Nando’s’. Butterfly chicken, chips and Garlic bread was my chosen meal (better than my bacon sandwich at the northern XC).

The race started pretty swiftly, but not as swift as yesterday’s 800m and no one fell at the break point or pushed.

First mile ticked by 5.15, going nicely. 2nd mile ticked by and was pretty similar. YESSSSSSS I wasn’t dying…. maybe I had paced it right. Into 5k 16.38. It’s all going to well how can I mess this up? Then the 4th mile was faster than mile 3. Nowwwwww time to move. Pushed my way to finish In 27.24 new shiny PB.

Overall not a bad race and maybe reflecting the hard work that goes into training. I was the lone Strider out of 957 runners and finished 25th in 27.24.

First Male Matthew Clowes (Cardiff AAC) 24.16.

First Female Rosie Clarke (Epsom and Ewell Harriers) 27.14.
