Ashbourne Half Marathon 2019 Result

Race date:  Sunday 7th July 2019

This race included the 2019 British Masters Half Marathon Championships

Ashbourne Running Club organised this brilliant road race and arranged near perfect conditions for it.  Stunning weather.  This is a small, very local race, with lots of support and friendly marshals into the bargain.

One of the big attractions is the local scenery which is outstanding – causing a good number of runners to pause and take it in.  They weren’t just recovering from the hills, either!  Speaking of hills, there were a couple, I recall but with a steady pace (in my case, well, walking along with pretty much everybody else) they were doable.  The Garmin recorded an ascent of 270m but I’m unsure about that; seemed like more.

I also spotted a couple of raptors which looked big enough to take a lighter runner…  And, yes, there is a tunnel.

361 runners took part with Gareth Lowe of Clowne Road Runners breaking the tape first in 01:14:32.  Katherine Wood of Sale Harriers Manchester was first woman home, in 01:21:19.

Phil Skelton came 4th overall and was 2nd in his category; Dot Kesterton was 1st in her category; Stephanie Street was 3rd in the same category.
