Race Date 5th July

Another sunny evening, another easygoing fell race, this time in a pleasant village out between Chesterfield and Matlock. This race had been recommended by Caroline Brock last year and she wasn’t wrong. It really was a cracking course in a scenic valley with a huge variety of terrain: narrow wooded paths; steep technical descents; unexpected switchbacks and a little bit of scrambling meant it was never boring. And with a suggested contribution of just £3 even Mr Howson wouldn’t complain. There were some nice young lads marshalling who told us all were were like “Speedy McQueen”!

The race was won by Chris Perry (Matlock) in 43.06 and fastest lady was Meera Elliot (Beeston) in 60.36

A small but select group of veteran striders were amongst the 117 competitors. My sources tell me that Nicola would/should have been first lady had she not missed a turning and ended up running considerably further than was strictly necessary!
