Race Date: Sunday 12th May
Like the Queen, our great social secretary has many birthdays. For round 10 of the big birthday celebrations, a big group of us travelled to Berlin for a Peggy weekend, jam packed full of activities – in Pegg style – running, drinking, cycling, and some sightseeing packed in.
The race itself comes highly recommended by Mr Pegg, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Three distances were available: 10k, half marathon, and the 25k. All start and finish at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, which, if you forget the history is a remarkable structure. The finish means a spectacular adrenaline-inducing finish through a tunnel into the stadium (drums-a-beating), and then a lap round the track, where it feels like the crowds are cheering you in – giving you that Mo Farah feeling. Being in Germany, the race was impeccably organised, with plenty of toilets, a slick bag-drop and free beer at the end. The longer the race you do, the more interesting the sights you get to see on the way round.
The 25k was won by Schäfer, Samalya of Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team (GER) in 01.25.26, first lady home was Pfäffle, Malin (GER) of Die Laufpartner in 01:41:29.
