Race Date: Sunday 29th September 2019
If ever a man wanted to run this race, Steve Haake was it. Not satisfied with buying one place, or forgetting like Rob Davies and buying a second place by mistake, Steve Haake bought 8, yes eight, places for the Cheltenham half. With one week to go, training and preparation was going well until, 41 miles into the Sheffield Way ultra, he started suffering for a niggling knee pain. Realising he had to try and get some value from his 8 places, he decided to retire from the ultra and rest up for the Cheltenham half.
Thankfully he recovered enough to run it and I think he was pretty pleased with his time, all things considered. Not sure if he got 8 times the value for money. I wonder if he got 8 t-shirts and 8 goodie bags????
The race was won by Dominic James of Cheltenham & County Harriers in 1.10.24. The women’s race was won by Courtney Howard (unattached) in 1.23.12
