Coniston 14 result

Race Date: Saturday 30th March 2019

So, with the race calendar looking a little sparse this weekend, an appeal went out asking if anyone had any knowledge of local races for the weekend. Adam replied with a not local proposition. However it was a typical Richard Pegg organised Saturday morning trip. I’m always game so I agreed to come – only to find out Coniston 14 was full – bugger! Appeals to the race organisers and then onto the race facebook page allowed me to pick up a late cancellation place. I was in the race and in for a busy Saturday!

6.00 am pick up, drive up to Fell Foot park parkrun, complete parkrun, drive over to Coniston, park somewhere so we can get out of town easily, run Coniston 14, leave Coniston asap, drive Peggy to Northallerton railway station so he can get to Middlesborough for the Norwich game, drive home, go out for a few pints in the evening. Everything went to plan.

The race is in a beautiful setting and is highly recommended. A few from Totley AC, and Ian Stinson,  make a weekend of it and it was nice to have some Sheffield support out on the course. There was also a good smattering from other local clubs, ie Rotherham AC, Penistone FPR, Clowne AC, etc. The course undulates with a big climb at the start and another at mile 11. There are also some good compensatory downhills where the legs can be stretched out.

All in all, a great day out and thanks has to go to Adam for doing all the driving.

The race was won by Lewis Rodgers of Loftus & Whitby AC in 1.13.32. The first woman home was Eleanor Fowler of Nuneaton Harriers in 1.31.10.
