Fell race championship 2019 standings – 4 of 10

We are 4 races into the 2019 fell race championships, and are getting a sense of where the titles might be heading this year.

On the women’s side, Gillian Allen and Rosa Sampson Geroski are separated by only a handful of points in the senior women’s championships and look good to be battling for overall victory, but there is still time for former champions Fran Cummins and Caroline Brock to make a bid for glory. Sallyann Winslow holds on to her lead in the women’s V40 table, as Lucy Broom closes to within 8 points following her run at Bamford. In the women’s V50 race, Nicola Rafferty continues to produce excellent results to overtake Jill Davies at the top.

For the men, the senior race is shaping up to be perhaps the battle of the season, with Chris Jones and Paul Middlemas duking it out near the sharp end of each race, and are so far separated by a mere 2 points. Hal Roberts has also opened his account in recent weeks and looks a strong outside contender. The men’s V40 division is the most crowded and boasts two of the three ‘ever present’ runners this year. Jason Brannan tops the table over Russell Stevenson, with the likes of Louis Wood, Nigel Barnes and Nick Burns not too far behind. Mark Platton – the third runner to have run all four races in 2019 – tops the V50 table, but Paul Stuart, Nick Kirk and Rob Davies all look likely to challenge him should they complete enough races. Andy Buck leaps to the top of the men’s V60 chart after Bamford, finally giving Paul Shelton somebody to battle against.
