Fell Race Championship 2019 – standings 8 of 10

With the summer racing at Sheldon, Crowden and the Totley Exterminator completed, we’ve reached the sharp end of the 2019 Fell Race Championship. Lots of runners have completed sufficient races to qualify, and there’s still time for plenty more to join them. Detailed standings below.

Next race: Curbar Commotion, Sat 5 Oct

Senior Women

Gillian Allen becomes the first runner to hit the magic 500 point barrier this year and looks a strong contender for the overall victory. Fran Cummins continues to race brilliantly however, and with Caroline Brock unfortunately suffering a broken wrist during the Exterminator, if Fran finishes either of the last two races she looks almost certain to take the title again.

No change here, as Dot Kesterton remains the sole competitor in this category. Unfortunately Dot hasn’t run enough fell races to qualify for the championships this year, but given everything else she has acheived, I think we can let her off!

Senior Men

As with most of the season, it’s still a two horse race at the top. But Paul Middlemas has finally pulled clear of Joseph Mallinshaw over the summer and looks good for the victory. Chris Jones and Hal Roberts have time to make an assault on Paul’s lead, but it would take some special racing to pip him to the title.
