Race Date: Wednesday 12th June 2019
Race Report by: Stephen Schubeler
Hosted by Doncaster AC, the race venue was Doncaster Knight’s rugby ground which is home to the largest bar in Yorkshire, some 71ft. If you didn’t know, now you do!
The race starts on a field just by the ground, with a slight lap then into Sandall Beat woods for some good old up and down trail/track action. It’s largely trail with some grass sections, including a lovely midway energy-zapping lap of a football field that certainly tested the old thighs post weekend antics and Edale fell run. (My leg muscles are not used to those conditions!)
Given the latest weather that hit Sheffield/Doncaster it was pretty boggy in sections. Even in trail shoes, some mud dancing occurred, fortunately it did not result in me ending up arse over tit! The rain held off though, with only spells of light drizzle.
Plenty of marshals and youngsters from the fun run/kid’s race supporting too.
So overall not a bad run, a canny midweek race with a local feel. Bit of a clash with the Handsworth Hobble & Blackamoor fell run which is probably why I appear to have been the sole Strider at the event.
Happy to report that I managed 2nd spot, just not enough juice in the legs to even challenge the leader, but enough to hold off 3rd!
A decent technical race t-shirt, snickers and bottle of water for my rewards. No flapjacks though!
The race was won by Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC in a time of 35:58, followed by myself in 2nd place in a time of 38:11, with 3rd spot completing the podium being Jamie Arkle of York Knavesmire in a time of 38:49.
First lady home was Zanthe Wray of Dark Peak in a time of 39:17, 2nd was Sarah Hunter of Ackworth in 40:50 and 3rd spot went to Rebecca Winter of Ackworth in 41:32.
239 runners took part, with full results here
