Race Date: Wednesday 3rd April 2019
If you got the Trunce and the old 5 milers, put them in a mixer, press start and waited a couple or mins, you would end up with all the good bits and be left with the Spencer’s Dash. (virtually all road)
My first visit to the Spencer’s Dash and I liked it a lot. 4 quid or 20 for the full race series.
3.75 miles on undulating county lanes on the edge of Barnsley, zig zagging around the M1.
The unique Keith Binney, as if straight off the set of Kes! ‘now if thy wants this to carry on stop parking if front of the locals drives!’ whilst waving his starting pistol.
The race attracts mainly club runners and numbers are realistic / low key. But still has a fair number of also happy runners.
Anyway first lady Strider was Dawn Jackson who has done it before and first Strider man was surprisingly me, as still struggling from my eyes bleeding efforts at the Trunce two days before.
First Lady overall Fiona Davies of Rotherham in 22.45 and First Man Scott Hincliff in 19.57 of Penistone. 243 took part and over 90% club runners, so well worth supporting.
Well worth the trip, 5 more chances this summer. Look on Barnsley AC website and hope Keith’s pistol is only for starting!
p.s. there was only two striders, which is surprising as there were more in Rotterdam 4 days later!
