I did my first race since March 1st 2020 when I travelled to Bury in Manchester to compete in the Lancashire Walking Club “Dick and Zena Smith” 10000m track race walk.

It was good to see my racewalk friends again after all this time. When I saw who was going to be competing against me I reckoned that I should have been the favourite to win, none of the faster walkers were competing today. However, after 15 months without racing I was unsure of my fitness and it was a warm sunny afternoon. When the race started I just followed the leader, the pace was very slow but still hard work in the heat. I waited until 8000m then I speeded up and took the lead. I won the race in 1h08.38.

Nice to win again but hopefully I can go faster next time.
