Race Date: Saturday 3rd September 2022
This event, organised by the Grim up North team, took place in the east coast town of Hornsea. There was a choice of distances: ultra, marathon, 20 mile, half marathon, 10km or 5km, each one being run as an out and back along the TPT on the course of the former Hornsea to Hull railway line. I ran with Sarah Percival in the 20 mile race and David Hewitt ran the half marathon.
As with all GRIM events there were no mile markers on the trails, very few marshals and limited water and feed stations – competitors are expected to carry their own water etc. At the end of the race there was the GRIM trademark blingy medal, chocolate bar, can of drink and free cakes.
Unlike last year’s event which was dominated by runners preparing for the glut of Autumn marathons that took place last October, this year’s event was much more low key. Sarah and I ran together but, having both raced too much in the previous few weeks, we didn’t do a particularly good time. We completed the first half in a good pace but then as the heat of the day started to take its toll we turned the second half into a training run. We passed David sporting the Striders battenburg vest going in the opposite direction as his race started later than ours.
