Race Date: Sunday 11th September 2022
One of my favourite races of the year. It’s that good that I once did the route clockwise then anti clockwise to make it into an Ultra. This year I decided to walk the route on Saturday with my wife to ensure I could remember all the best lines, especially through the bracken coming off Burbage and Stanage. Bumped into eventual race winner Steve Franklin who also seemed to have the same idea about reccying lines off Burbage.
As for the race itself, it was a quiet affair with only 67 runners. After a minute’s silence in remembrance of lost loved ones, we were off. The climb up Moss Road to the trig point is always a tough start to any race. Blackamoor, Burbage, Stanage, Mitchell fields, Lawrence Fields, Padley, Longshaw and Totley Moor ensued in a grueling 17 mile race. However, the weather was good and the marshalling was excellent. Huge thanks to Totley AC for putting such a great race on.
Hopefully we can get more Striders there next year. The race winner was Steve Franklin of Totley AC in 2.14.23. The women’s race winner was Rachel Thorley of DPFR in 2.54.10
