Race Date: 15 April 2022

Promoted by Friday Night Under the Lights and Belgrave Harriers this event was first set up in 2021 as a rebuff to Covid 19 with eight quality paced races over the afternoon all the way up to Elite men’s and women’s versions with GB Internationals and Olympians taking part. Despite the jocular commentary and free beer this was a serious event with qualifying standards (I never knew Abbie’s pb was previously 17:50, ed.) and strict International rules applied regarding shoes, principally no cheating shoes with a carbon plate, meaning that Abbie had to run in a pair of spikes borrowed from Tom Halloway.

The four hour Youtube Video (Abbie is in race one starting at about twenty minutes) shows our Strider hurtling off at an ambitious 15:40 pace although this helped her to latch onto a large group who she held onto for much of the race. Abbie was pleased that the camera followed the leaders for the last lap thus missing her demise as the first lady hunted her down on the home straight. Nevertheless Abbie pushed on to cross the line to set a stunning new club record that many of our men would be envious of.
