Race date: Fri 2 Sep 2022
Distance 4.8 miles / climb 951ft, category BS
This is the the last of the summer Peak District fell races and was the tenth counter in the 2022 Striders Fell Race Championship. It’s a pretty straightforward race – starting with a dash round the cricket pitch and along the road out of the village, runners then head steadily uphill for about a mile and half before dropping down to another short section climbing up on the road before the final twisty descent through the gorse and across the fields back to the cricket ground.
It was a glorious evening weather-wise, but it made for a fast race. At least a couple of Striders muttered variations of the same sentiment as they staggered over the line: “the only problem with this race is there aren’t any really steep hills where you get to walk for a breather”. This year, runners who could find a moment to look up were treated to the sight of half a dozen or so hot air balloons drifting over from Chatsworth. One of them even landed on the outfield in time for the finish.
The race was won by William Tighe (not sure what club as not shown in results) in 28:21. First lady was Helen Elmore (Dark Peak) in 35:53. There were 166 finishers.
