Race Date: Sunday 15th October 2023
The Holmfirth 10k starts out from the village of Hade Edge, a couple of miles south of Holmfirth (home of Last Of The Summer Wine) in West Yorkshire. The race is run on open roads, and the main body of the route combines an out-and-back section to and from the village, with a loop which takes in Winscar Reservoir and the hamlet of Dunford Bridge. Elevation totals 670 feet (or 204 metres).
The race is chip timed and runners are rewarded with a medal and goody bag. This year’s event took place on a bright but chilly day, with a race HQ in the cosy Hade Edge Band Room where huge slabs of cake were on offer at knockdown prices.
This was the penultimate race in the Striders Road Champs and League, and twenty-eight Striders were among 173 finishers at the 10k. The men’s race was won by Rob James of Royton Road Runners in a time of 34:31. Helena Croft of Holmfirth Harriers AC won the women’s race in a time of 40:16.
