Pennine Trail Marathon 2023 Results

Race Date: 26th August 2023

This was the second running of the Pennine Trail Marathon, described as ‘a bit cheeky’ by one runner or the Holy Grail of the Pennine’s Peaks, Pines & Trails by the event website. The race starts and finishes in Worsthorne near Burnley in a farmer’s field and this year had a downhill start, but uphill finish.

There were 4 aid stations which were also checkpoints – runners missing the cut-off times were withdrawn from the race.

One Strider took on this marathon, Dr Alan Evans, who had come over from Georgia to take part.  Alan came to the Millhouses café to say hello to the Tuesday morning Striders’ runners after their run on the 29th .  Alan reported that it was a tough race and he was glad to be able finish it, given that he started with a hamstring niggle, luckily the niggle didn’t get worse.

First man was Gary Shaw (Burnley AC) in 3:30:44 and first lady was Jenny Laing (n/a) in 4:13:48. Alan finished in 158th position (21st in the M50 category) in 5:58:47.
There were 224 finishers (I don’t think anyone got withdrawn unless they didn’t shown in the results at al).
