Race Date: Sunday 15th October 2023
There was a Striders Road Race Champs race on at Holmfirth the same day as this and I’m pretty sure that at least a couple of Striders did the double, dashing back from Holmfirth to make the starting line for this race. Well done to those who did.
The women’s race consisted of 106 entrants who faced two medium laps and a long lap, totalling 5000m. The race winner was our own Abbie Pearse, with category wins for Caroline Brock FV 35 and Fiona Jeffries FV 55. Well done to them and to the other Striders running.

With continuing inequality in XC racing, the males ran 4 long laps totalling 8000m. Maybe the organisers still don’t think women can run 8000m. I don’t know, it baffles me. Anyway, without wanting to open a can of worms, the males had 157 runners and the event was won by Alfie Manthorpe of City of Sheffield and Dearne AC in 25.51. Well done to Chris Ireland on his category win and to all the other Striders running.

Finally, the male over 65s race had 17 runners and had to cover a distance of 5000m through two medium and one long loop. This race was won by Robert Pearson of Sheffield RC in 22.26.
