Bauble Bimble Race Report and Results

By: Hannah Wright.

Race Date: 15th December, 2024.

A different type of ‘welcome break’.

On my journey back from a Christmas do in Ipswich I stopped off in Peterborough to take part in Zig Zag Running’s annual Bauble Bimble. I didn’t quite fancy Peterborough service station and felt that my legs needed a stretch and a move.

The Bauble Bimble is held in Ferry Meadows, one of the largest country parks in the region. It can either be a 6-hour event (if you have a 9 am start) or a 4-hour event (if you fancy a 11 am start), run as far as you can in the time. I opted for the 4 hour event knowing I may be a little hung-over from the night before.

The laps are 5.3km and the terrain consists of country park footpaths and grass areas. The food and water station is at the start/end of each loop. You can run as much, or as little as you want to, and can rest between laps if you like and head out for some more when you fancy.

The event is cup-less and there are areas to store your own fuel to save you carrying it. Runners on the day were attempting everything from a 5km to an Ultra.

I set myself a challenge to get to 20 miles.

The event was well-run and supportive of all runners. It had such a friendly atmosphere and everyone was made to feel welcome.

After my welcome break of 20 miles, I travelled back onto the A1 and headed home.

The race was won by Kerry Mavris (of no identified club) with 11 laps (or 36.2 miles) in 06:23:06 and Jay Juris Svetins (of no identified club) also with 11 laps in 06:33:42 .
