I wouldn’t send a dog out on a day like this: Mad Dog 10k Southport

Race Date: Sunday 4th February

What do you do when you get an offer of hotel accommodation (well, sharing with your sister) and a pop a winning first prize? Unable to resist, Caroline Brock made the trip over the Pennines to Lancashire for this event along the seafront at Southport. With live bands around the course and a fancy dress theme there’s something for everyone although perhaps everyone got more than they bargained for. Sea breezes may well be expected, especially in February, but Caroline’s negative split of over two minutes suggests that it was a tad windy on the way out whilst Strava suggests that her second mile took over seven minutes.

The race starts on Marshside Road where the Fogbell was erected in in the 19th Century to guide those lost in fog back to safety. (Photo Chris Moss)

When it’s windy the maxim is race for position, not for time and our Club Captain fought the elements to pick up a tidy sum as second woman. First woman was Nichola Jackson (Keswick) 36:24 with Luke Minns (Blackpool) first man home in 34:06. There were 1266 finishers.
