Race Date: Saturday 9th November 2024
The Six Dales Circuit is almost marathon distance, 95% run on trails. It starts from Biggin at the very loose time of between 7.15am and 8am. The timekeepers time you out and time you back in and then work out the total completed time.
We’ve done this event a good number of times but can never remember the names of all the dales so we spent some focused time on this, as well as discussing world politics, the best races to do, music, rugby and many other topics. Amazing what you can talk about as you run through beautiful countryside. Anyway, here goes: Biggin dale, Wolfscote dale, Beresford dale, Lathkil dale, Bradford dale and Long dale (I think). I’ve not looked it up but I think I’ve remembered them. We even discussed a mnemonic to try to help us remember but moved on quite quickly.
This event has 200 runners or walkers and costs £10 for members (LDWA membership is £15 and includes 3 magazines a year) or £16 to non-members and includes a brew before the start, aid stations at Hartington, Monyash and another village above Bradford dale, the name of which I have forgotten, plus a two course meal at the end. It’s immense value for money
The course is lovely. Very autumnally scenic at this time of year and the weather was decent. Warm in the dales and a lot cooler in the exposed areas. Nearly 26 miles and almost 2500 feet of elevation so nothing too strenuous.
Perfect day out and I’ll be doing it again next year. There are no placings but the marshals told us there were about 14 runners ahead of us so we were happy with that.
