Round Date: Thursday 30th May 2024
It seems like there are ’rounds’ popping up everywhere nowadays. The Tea Round has been ticked off several times, as has the Outside Hope Valley Round so when the Inov8 shop at Bakewell began promoting the new Wild Peaks Round, it was some that was worth looking at.
Initially I had planned to run the full round on 18th March but I just didn’t feel in the right frame of mind at the time. Jim Rangeley however did go on to complete it with Simon Bayliss and Ollie Harrison from DRC and much kudos must go out to them for a sterling effort of 120km in 15 hours or so.
Ben Heller and I set off on the mini round of 15km a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it so we decided to undertake the more strenuous half round (55km) last week. The weather was good for running, not too hot, not too cold and virtually no rain. Plenty of places to get food and fill water bottles up and the scenery was stunning. We completed the 34 miles in just under 8 hours.
There has been a lot of talk and attempts at the Outside Hope Valley Round. I think these rounds deserve a good looking at too. The full round of 120km is on my radar for the summer but I’m pretty sure people would enjoy the mini and half rounds if they gave them a go. The reward, other than the obvious, is a Wild Peak Round bottle of beer and a wooden beer coaster. Things I’ll do for a free pint!
Full details of the rounds are here. Have a look and plan an excursion. It’s a great day out:
