The Blaydon Race was first held in 1981, the 5.9 mile route is based on the lyrics to the 1862 song by George ‘Geordie’ Ridley – ‘The Blaydon Races’.
A celebration of the North East’s running community, local culture and heritage, The Blaydon Race is presented by Blaydon Harrier and Athletics Club. There were 4489 runners for this year’s Blayden Races, including 3 Striders.
The male race winner was Calum Johnson of Gateshead Harriers in 28.07. The female race winner was Sonia Samuels of Sale Harriers in 32.07
