Race Date: Saturday 1st March 2025

As part of their Yorkshire Colliery Weekend, It’s Grim Up North Running invite runners to take on their Carry on in the Colliery Marathon which sees runners take on a 5 mile lapped course through the stunning South Yorkshire Park country park of Rabbit Ings in Barnsley.  There is some elevation to contend with (262ft), with each loop taking in one short, steep climb allowing you views over the local countryside.

Several other events run on the same day with staggered start times. You can also chose to take part in an Ultra, 20, 15, 10 or 5 miles and for the competitive dog lovers/runners amongst us, there is also a separate Canicross event.

Attendance numbers aren’t huge across the different distances. There were just two females taking on the marathon with the winner being our very own Julia Neri!
