An Autumn trail race out of Hartington in Derbyshire with a goody bag from the Hartington Cheese Shop waiting for you at the finish. The route promises fine locations for wildlife and great natural scenery, including tree lined dales and limestone cliffs. It’s an event with short (8.4km, 135m elevation) and long (16.4km, 290m elevation) options, this results page concerns the long race.

Three Striders were among 78 runners who lined up for the Cheese & Crackers Trail race. The men’s race was won by Paul Sammonds of Holmfirth Harriers AC in a time of 01:15:46. Nikki Brammeier of Bell & Harp Running Club won the women’s race in a time of 01:28:52.

Report from Hannah Wright:

This is what I would call a lactose intolerants dream race. Knowing the risks I signed up (I love cheese but cheese hates me).

A little about trails for good:

Their aim is to create trail running events that have a positive effect on their surrounding landscape and local economy. Part of the reason that they want to keep running on the trails is for their growing respect for nature and the desire to be in it. To make this sustainable, they are always looking for ways that they can reduce impact whilst increasing participation.

By entering one of their trail running events, you are contributing to tree planting, nature and moorland regeneration, trail repair and accessibility within the Peak District National Park.

They welcome runners of all abilities, whether you are just starting out on your trail running journey, or adding another set of race results to your growing collection.

Cheese and Crackers race:

There was a choice of two distances 8.4km or 16.4km. With the longer distance boasting 290M Elev.

121 participants took part and ran the course.

At the start line I bumped into my good trail running buddy Joy. We decided to explore the trails together.

The route explored some of the finest locations for wildlife and natural features in England along the way with tree lined dales and limestone cliffs to enjoy. The marshaling and signposting was spot on. Thank you trails for good.

As always with any good trail a variety of terrains and a bloody steep muddy hill.

It was made all the better by the incredible goodie bag of Hartington Cheese Shop products waiting at the finish line. Cheese, crackers and port.

In addition to the goodie bag there were cups of tea and lots of cheese samples to try from Hartington Cheese Shop whilst the awards were taking place. I even bought some extra cheese and a cherry wine to take home.

I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the trails around Hartington and the goodie bag made the day even more memorable.
