Chester Triple series
Part 1
Date: 09/03/25
Distance: 10km
What is the Chester Triple?
At the start of the year I was looking for a new challenge and I came across the Chester Triple series.
Run and complete the MBNA Chester 10K (6.2 miles), the Essar Chester Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and either the MBNA Chester Marathon (26.2 miles) or Metric Marathon (26.2 km) in the same year.
At the end you get a really big Chester Triple Medal.
On the day:
It should have been an ideal race day. The conditions were perfect, the atmosphere was incredible and my training was going well.
The downfall was the tequila and the curry. I had been invited to a Headways black tie event the night before and we partied till 3am (I thought I would have grown out of this now I’m 40).
After I few hours kip I made it Chester. I was glad I was in the 9:30 wave. Extra half hour shut eye. The event village was at the race course. Thankfully plenty of loos.
Somehow I made it to the start line. My splits went like so:
Mile 1: great pace, on form
Mile 2-3: hangover kicked it. Sweating Tequila. Started to Jeff.
Mile 3-5: half way refreshment revived me. Managed to keep a slow but manageable pace.
Miles 5-6: who put that hill there? Little sprint finish.

At the finish you get a technical T-shirt, bespoke medal and a top-quality goody bag. Lots of hangover snacks in it.
I was glad to see my good mate Alex at the finish line. He was in the 9am wave. Then off we went for a drink (I had coke).
The course:
This fast course starts from Nuns Road next to the iconic Chester Racecourse and heads north-west out of the City along wide roads allowing runners to rapidly settle into race pace, then passing close to the picturesque village of Mollington, before returning to the heart of Chester City centre passing the historic Victorian town hall and Medieval Cathedral, before finishing on Eastgate Street with a spectacular backdrop of the Eastgate Clock.
Start Waves
The MBNA Chester 10K will start on Nuns Road adjacent to Chester Racecourse and utilise three Start Waves. These will be clearly indicated on your race number.
First Wave (Orange) = 09:00
Second Wave (Blue) = 09:30
Purple Wave (Purple) = 10:00
Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 men and women and the winners of each age group.
