Gainsborough & Morton 10k & Half Marathon – Sunday 9th November 2025

Race report by Rhya Irwin

With no race in 2024, the new event organiser Run Through welcomed 729 runners in the quiet Lincolnshire village of Morton, just north of Gainsborough, to chase a late Autumn PB. About an hour or so from Sheffield the course consists of a single almost square loop taking runners through wide country roads and rural views. With a Half-Marathon also on offer and the nearest car-park a brisk 15-minute walk away my best advice is to arrive in plenty of time to avoid those last-minute dashes to the start line.

After a short 5-minute walk to the start line, I could only see one pacer which was for the front runners, so I slotted into the crowd about half-way through. The course starts by leading runners north out of the village in the first of three long straights. Relatively rural the crowds thin out almost immediately but gives runners the chance to get into a steady, focused rhythm. Just after the water station at the half-way mark we head through a small housing estate with at least a few supporters dotted along to spur runners on for the final stretch towards the finish.

Overall, the course has PB potential for sure, its fast and flat with only about 30ft of elevation and the weather on the day was almost idyllic running weather, slightly nippy and dry but there was a slight headwind on the coming through towards the 7KM mark.

After the finish, although not very well sign-posted, you have to head back past the finishing line and taking a right towards the event village, do not take the long way over the river through the fields like I almost did.

There were 4 striders out in force in the 10k with Dawn Jackson securing a top 3 category position.

David Bownes also completed the associated half marathon event and was 3rd M70.
