Race Date: Wednesday 19th November 2025

This is a great race. Very few people seemed keen when huddling in Outside to keep warm. I wasnt keen when I was in my warm house, looking at the temperature gauge quickly heading south. Harriet vehemently expressed her lack of keenness in the car on the way to Hathersage. However, I knew and we all knew we’d have a great time once we got started. The format of the race is simple. run up Stanage, run along Stanage, run off Stanage. The path up to Stanage was freezing over nicely so a bit of care was need, there was a little bit of snow on Stanage too. Because it was such a clear night, the string of headtorches below snaking their way up Stanage made an impressive sight. I think I managed to find the only bog that wasn’t frozen over and promptly fell into it causing a few cuts and scratches which bled impressively well but thankfully was only superficial.

We had a good social in the Scotsman’s afterwards and all agreed it was far better than sitting in our warm houses watching meaningless telly and we’re all looking forward to it next year already

There were 169 runners for this year’s Hathersage Night fell race including an impressive turnout from Striders. Well done to everyone who ran. The male race winner was Michael Kenyon of Dronfield RC in 33.41. The female race winner was Sara Willhat of Mercia in 39.30.
