Two athletics events took place at EIS over the weekend – a Run, Jump, Throw event on Saturday followed by a British Masters Championship on Sunday.
Kate Scott was in action on both days. On Saturday she mixed acting as a track official with competing in the 400m and 800m events. She reports being happy with her performances as they were the same as she achieved in January 2024 so a promising start to the season. She will be representing Northern Masters in the Inter Area match in London in a few weeks time.
Kate was back on Sunday to compete in the high jump, her first attempt at the event since 2021. Showing fine technique she achieved a PB by 3cm, clearing 1.18cm, and claiming a gold medal in the Yorkshire Veterans competition in the process. A couple of hours later she returned to have another go at the 800m but by this time was understandably quite fatigued and wasn’t able to match her time from the day before.
Jed Turner and I took part in the British Masters 3000 metres competition in the M60 category. Pretty mediocre efforts by both of us and we certainly didn’t threaten the leaders in the British Masters competition but did come away with medals in the Yorkshire Veterans event.
