Run, Jump, Throw meet at Woodbourne Road – Wednesday 21st May

Summer is here and the track and field season is underway.  The Run Jump Throw events are a series of open meets held at Woodbourne Road track over the Summer – simply sign up, put down a predicted time or performance, and you will be seeded into a heat with people of a similar ability.

Kate Scott was the sole Striders representative at the first event of the year on May 21st, opting to do the 400 and 800 metres.  Kate was officiating at the event as well as competing – not the ideal way to warm up for her races but these events do depend on a wonderful group of volunteers, may of whom compete as well.

Kate reports that she was happy to be just 2 seconds outside her season’s best in the 400 metres in 77 seconds – this just 3 days after she completed the Eyam Half Marathon.  She then officiated for the first two 800 metre heats before stepping back onto the track herself to run 3.02 in heat three.  Just to reflect the nature of these events, Kate’s heat included an under 11 girl, and the wonderful Rod Scholes from Barnsley, now a M80, who ran the fastest 800m by an eighty year old so far this year, and one of the top 20 times ever by a M80.

The next events will be on Wednesday June 4th and Wednesday 2nd July.
