An excellent evening of  races organised by Hillsborough and Rivelin Running Club at the ever impressive EIS, with ten Striders taking part over three frantic hours.

 

Races were available over 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, a couple of relay distances and the always nerve-wracking eliminator event.    Most athletes opted for several races over the evening.

Two senior Striders records fell.  Pierre McCarthy set a new 60m record of 7.98 (though still shy of Mick Wall’s veteran’s mark of 7.72 from 2019).  Pierre was back on the track shortly afterwards to pair up with Brendan Wain, Rob Byers and Jack Chapman in the 4 x 400m relay.  Leading throughout they took two seconds off the existing Senior record which dated back to 1989 and featured Rob and Dave Ashurst, two of Striders early track coaches.

There were victories for Brendan Wain in the 200m and 800m, Naomi Tuckett in the 800m and Paddy Treehowes in the 200m.  Paddy also set a new club M55 60m record, as did Jed Turner in the M65 category, and Emer McKay in the F70 200m event.

It was excellent to see so many Striders running on the track, and with plenty of indoor meets coming up over the next few months there will  be the opportunity for more track records to be beaten.
